personally no, i have never died my hair black. so if anyone reading this has some tips, give us a shout!
as for getting it professionally done - if your colour faded to a shade not as dark as you’d like this could be caused by a few things. If your hair was light to begin with it is common that the dye won’t hold very well the first few times you colour. A way to cut down on this is not to shampoo your hair for 2-3 days after colouring.
If you’re really unhappy I would suggest going back to your stylist, and professional should help if you are unhappy with the way he/she coloured your hair.

I honestly like both! There are some beautiful asian girls running around my university with long wavy hair and just today I was talking to a girl from China in my Chemistry class who had a very cule bob with a fringe. If you feel like your face is too round to wear your hair back consider a sweeping short side bang! This will elongate your face, even when you’re not wearing your hair tied back. Also, when styling your hair in a bun, go for a messier look as apposed to something very tight that will really show the roundness of your face.
