personally no, i have never died my hair black. so if anyone reading this has some tips, give us a shout!
as for getting it professionally done - if your colour faded to a shade not as dark as you’d like this could be caused by a few things. If your hair was light to begin with it is common that the dye won’t hold very well the first few times you colour. A way to cut down on this is not to shampoo your hair for 2-3 days after colouring.
If you’re really unhappy I would suggest going back to your stylist, and professional should help if you are unhappy with the way he/she coloured your hair.
